Global Soil Week - Kenya Pilot Study

The Global Soil Week (GSW) is organised by TMG Research in partnership with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit. Bringing together a range of actors, the GSW aims to develop new policies, and strengthen existing actions, on sustainable soil management and responsible land governance. Launched in 2012, the thematic focus of GSW for 2021 is 'Creating an enabling environment for green recovery,' with the aim that the rights of vulnerable communities will be protected in Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) initiatives. This work involves two pilot studies, in Kenya and Benin. This info brief introduces the Kenya project, describing the local degradation and LDN context, with a focus on the Kereita Forest. TMG and its local partners are implementing a pilot process at the forest, with the aim of facilitating the greater involvement of marginalised communities in participatory forest management, and enhancing the accountability of all stakeholders with respect to the enforcement of rights and duties.
